Why do Elephants need our help?
In the last 30 years, the Elephant population has decreased from 1.5 million to 400,000 because they are being murdered for Ivory, a luxury product made from their tusks. Bad people called poachers illegally, and inhumanely, kill elephants to remove their tusks while leaving their bodies behind to rot. The greed proliferated by the trade of Ivory, mixed with the loss of habitat, have been driving the animals to extinction. Elephants need humans that are willing to stand up to other humans and fight for them to live. Living Elephant is dedicated to standing up for those majestic animals who cannot protect themselves.
What does the Elephant Crisis Fund do?
The ECF was launched in 2013 with the purpose enabling trusted organizations access to funds for emergency assistance and government investments.
Every single penny that is donated to the Elephant Crisis Fund is distributed to projects designed to protect the lives of elephants. To date they have received $36.3 million in donations and have redirected $35.7 million in projects. Leaving about $1 million ready to disperse for emergencies.
They have a hand in combating all elements of the ivory crisis from investigation and trafficking to seeking justice from poachers. ECF is working with organizations across the globe to protect elephant landscapes through the promotion of human-elephant coexistence.
